What is Read Woke: Reading for Change?

Read Woke is a reading program to promote awareness that was developed by Cicely Lewis, a high school librarian. To be considered a Read Woke book a title must :

  • Challenge a social norm
  • Give voice to the voiceless
  • Provide information about a group that has been disenfranchised
  • Seek to challenge the status quo
  • Have a protagonist from an underrepresented or oppressed group

The Thayer Public Library Read Woke program will run through Wednesday, November 18th. Sign up on Beanstack to post reviews, keep track of what you have read, and participate in challenges to earn badges.  And be sure to check the calendar for special Read Woke events.
