ADULT PROGRAMS

Book Clubs

The library has five book discussion groups for adults that meet regularly (more about them here). Discussion titles are available to borrow with your library card at the Circulation Desk on the Main Level several weeks before each meeting date. Books are due back on the day/night of the discussion. All readers are always welcome! Often large-print and audiobook editions of the book club selections are also available.

Monthly Movie Night

Join us the first Wednesday night of the month for a free showing of a newly-released-on-DVD movie on the big screen in the Logan Auditorium. The first showing is at 2:00 pm and the second showing is at 6:30 pm during fall/winter hours. Check event calendar or monthly newsletter for titles and dates. No registration required; the first 100 people will be admitted. Library movies are presented through a generous donation in loving memory of Steve Burns.
Movie ratings will vary. This program is primarily intended for adult audiences.

Genealogy Club

Are you interested in tracing your family’s history? Are you working on your genealogy and want to meet up with others who are working on their family trees? Then join us at the Thayer Public Library’s Genealogy Club which meets monthly on a Saturday morning. Check the event calendar or monthly newsletter for dates, times and information on special speakers/topics.

Knitting Club

Join the Thayer Public Library’s informal knitting group! Bring your project (crochet, knit, fabric!) and enjoy the company of other knitters every 3rd Tuesday from 7-8:30pm. Beginners to experts are welcome. Basic skills are needed, although help may be available from other knitters. Walk–ins welcome! Meet in the Reading Room on the Main Level.

Board Game Night for Adults

Do you enjoy playing board games? Then have we got a cool program for you! Monthly Board Game Nights for Adults!  Stop in solo or bring a friend and join us for game night the first Monday of the month at 7-8:30pm(6:00-7:30pm in the Summer) in the Reading Room. Christina (our Circulation Librarian) will be there to say hello and show you the competitive & collaborative board games and card games we have (special thanks to the SciFi/Fantasy Book Club for the recommendations!)

No registration required- this is a drop-in program. Depending on who else is there will determine which games you play first!

Open Scrabble Play

Stop by for open Scrabble play on Thursday nights. Play starts promptly at 6:30 PM on the Lower Level (6 PM during the summer). Come alone or bring a friend. We supply the boards. You supply the words!

Author Talks

The library periodically hosts authors speaking about their recent publications. Some author events require tickets, which are free and generally available two weeks in advance. Check the event calendar for more information about upcoming events.

TPL Writers

Support/Interest Group for writers for all ages, in all genres, and at all stages of the journey. The group meets monthly, usually on the first or second Saturday, 10:30-11:30 PM. No meetings in July, August, and December.

Monday Mah Jongg

All players are welcome for Mah Jongg open play, every Monday morning, 11 am-12:30 pm. If you have a Mah Jongg set, please bring it with you, or you can borrow one of ours. Teaching sessions offered on occasion. Check the library event calendar or call the Reference Desk at 781-848-0405 x4417 for more information.
